UAE Corporate Tax Deadlines and Penalty Waiver

Understand the normal filing deadline, the first-period penalty waiver and the records to prepare before submitting a UAE Corporate Tax return.

Reviewed 12 September 2026. General guidance; confirm the requirements for your business with the relevant authority.

Corporate Tax registration, filing and payment are separate obligations. The date that matters to your business depends on its tax period and legal status. A headline date copied from another company’s calendar can create a costly mistake.

The first-period waiver is not a universal July deadline

The FTA’s late-registration penalty waiver is linked to filing within seven months of the end of the first tax period. An exempt person required to register may instead have an annual declaration obligation. Check which requirement applies to the entity. The initiative concerns the late-registration penalty; it is not a general cancellation of every tax penalty.

For a company whose first tax period ended on 31 December 2025, that seven-month window ended on 31 July 2026. This example does not create a 31 July deadline for every taxpayer. A company with a different first period must calculate its own date. If that window has passed, address outstanding registration and filing obligations promptly and review the actual penalty position shown in EmaraTax.

Keep the ordinary filing deadline on a separate calendar

Corporate Tax returns and payment are generally due within nine months after the end of the relevant tax period. For a period ending on 31 December 2025, the ordinary deadline is 30 September 2026, unless a specific applicable decision changes it. The earlier waiver condition does not replace this normal timetable.

Create separate reminders for registration, closing the accounts, approving the return and paying the liability. A return can be submitted while a payment is still unresolved; check both confirmations instead of treating a submission receipt as proof of payment.

How the waiver is reflected in EmaraTax

The FTA describes the waiver as automatic where the conditions are met. A qualifying penalty already paid is credited to the taxpayer’s account. An account credit is different from a bank refund: any refund request or use of that credit follows the applicable FTA process. Keep the original assessment, payment record and first-return acknowledgement together so the account movement can be reconciled.

Prepare a filing pack that another person can review

  • Confirm the legal entity, Corporate Tax registration number and first tax period against the FTA record.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, receivables, payables, payroll and shareholder balances to the accounts.
  • Identify related-party transactions and retain the agreements and pricing support.
  • Review income, expenses and any tax adjustments with the person responsible for the return.
  • Assess reliefs and any free zone treatment against their conditions; do not assume that a licence label determines the result.
  • Obtain the authorised person’s approval and retain the submitted return, payment confirmation and supporting workpapers.

If something is missing or incorrect

Work from the documents and the portal notice. Record the affected period, amount, submission reference and response deadline. A registration problem, a return correction and a disputed penalty can require different procedures. Ask for a written explanation of the proposed correction before approving it, and track any authority request until it is resolved.

Questions business owners ask

Does zero tax payable mean no return is needed?

No. Registration and filing requirements can apply even where the final tax liability is zero. First determine whether the person is within scope and which obligations apply.

Can a free zone company ignore the deadline?

No. Free zone incorporation does not itself remove Corporate Tax compliance obligations. Qualifying income treatment requires a separate assessment.

What should I send MNK first?
